After a rough first meal here with Abby, (see very first blog post), spanish food has come a long way for us! I kind of like it actually, now that I finally know what to order. My second tapas course I made some great dishes! I also just gave a presentation in spanish class on typical spanish meals. (of course, i chose the food topic out of anything to do with Spain..) I'm looking forward to cooking when I get back! Some of the "platos" I made were: Ensaladilla rusa, Bread with tomate and a mini fried robins egg on top (my favorite it was so good), Paella-the traditional Spanish rice and fish dish, and a few other fun things!

One of our Spanish friends and another girl from CIEE at the tapas course.
My madre makes this great orange bread that I love and some desserts-natillas, a pudding with cinnamon and graham cracker type cookies on top, and arroz con leche is another favorite. We have a lot of soup that I like too! With these weird mini pork ribs that are pretty good and really tender and a variety of beans, from chickpeas to lentils plus potatoes or veggies of some sort.
There is one Mexican restaurant in alicante that is good, so with our craving for real Mexican salsa and guacamole on a daily basis, we headed there for one girl's birthday. It was so good! I got a huge chicken burrito and loved every bite :)
Abby and I may have found the "meat garden" of alicante on valentines day. We had a big test the next day, and had heard of this Chinese buffet that supposedly has really good everything. We thought we could sit there for a few hours to "study" and eat some good food, so we treated ourselves to wine while we got there an HOUR before it opened because we were that hungry..

Looks like the perfect way to study to me! Right before stuffing ourselves with seriously the best Chinese ever. Ribs, beef and broccoli, sushi, and the best part- a fridge of fresh seafood and great vegetables that you choose and they grill for you! Oh.my.gosh. Divine. We needed our red meat fix for sure and valentines day was the perfect excuse. Oh and there is a ton of fresh fruit and a chocolate fountain! Our waiter brought us champagne too and we each got a rose! It made my day :)

This is the restaurant

Andddd Abby with our gift :)

Crab legs, fresh huge shrimp, and sushi. What could be better..

In London we, again, headed for the Mexican restaurant before meeting Ben out and had some yummy chicken nachos. (and a long island iced tea plus a few other drinks..oops) on Saturday, Kim and I made dinner for Ben- guess what we made... Enchiladas! Wow surprise, Mexican again. They were also soo tasty and went perfect with some guacamole and real Mexican salsa.
Granada this weekend has a great idea- free tapas with beer! Who would've thought..? You get a 2 euro beer and get to choose a tapa! They were really good too. I got a "hamburguesa" and it was great. The next day we got Turkish kebap's. They are this big new trend in Spain, it's kind of like gyro meat with a ranch type sauce and lettuce and tomato in a tortilla or pita, depending on where you go. We got a "Plato de doner kebap mixto"- it was a plate with chicken and beef and lettuce and tomato with the sauce on top. Same as a kebap just without the bread. We were so starving after the longest tour of the alhambra that we ate that so fast it was great.
Well off to cafeteria food now for typical dinner hour, 10 PM! I'm going to be so backwards when I go home.. Drinking coffee at 3 pm, eating breakfast at 8, a sandwich at 12 and a big lunch at 2.. It's different. Working a full time job will be good to get me back the american schedule.
More to come, including london pictures and Granada!
